Additional Filming Part III

By last Friday, Saba and I had finished the main part of our filming and last Friday the only thing we had to do was film the clock which will represent the passing of time. On Friday, we then filmed this scene and this was the last part of filming we had to do for our trailer, we then rewinded the tape back to log all the times of things that happened so it will make it easier for us to edit as we will know the times of each scene so it will be easier to edit and put together. This then shows that we are on track and we are sticking to our project plan therefore showing we are making good progress and also shows Saba and I work well together as a team.

Research: Film Titles

Last week, Saba and I decided that we should start brainstorming ideas for the name of our film. I then decided that I should think of some initial ideas which were the following:

  • Let the Right One In
  • The Collector
  • The Tortured
  • Eye for an Eye
  • Vendetta
  • Death Becomes Her
  • Slaughter

I then discussed with Saba which ones would be more suitable she then liked Eye for an Eye and Death Becomes Her. I agreed with her as these highlighted the genre and storyline of our film, however, we have not made any final decisions as this will be decided next week by the latest becuase we will have started to edit and the title will be crucial so we can add it to the trailer.

I also then thought that our film will need a tagline or slogan for our trailer as this will captivate the audience as well as making it more eye catching and unique from other trailers. My initial ideas for the taglines are as follows:

  • Fear can keep you prisoner. Hope can set you free.
  • Trapped in Time. Surrounded by Evil.
  • His deadly past becomes her cruel reality.

Saba liked the slogans and we both decided that the first and last one were the best, but again we have not made any final decisions as we thought both these slogans fitted with the storyline as well as adding suspense.

Filming Part II

On Friday 23rd November, Saba and I decided that we should start filming the main body of our trailer which was to film the scenes with the killer and the wife. Last week, Saba and I decided that we are going to change the appearance description of the killer, and so we decided to have a woman killer who is out for revenge. This then challenges audiences expectations and as the killer with be wearing white it juxtaposes the idea of a young woman actually being a murderer. We then filmed on Friday at our school's sixth form library as it is in a basement as well as being dark and scary. We had no problems like the previous week, this then gave Saba and I a chance to experiment with different camera angles and lighting so that we could get the best possible outcome for our trailer. This then meant Saba and I were on track with our filming as we wanted to get this done as soon as possible becuase we want to spend more time editing as this will take longer for us to do. Therefore, Saba and I have now finished the main part of our filming and showing that we have stuck to our project plan as this can help us have a successful outcome.

Filming

On Friday 16th November, Saba and I decided that we should start filming in order to get our trailer work done and the earlier we do it then the more time we have to edit and to also see if we have missed any addtional scenes. The day of filming was quite successful as Saba and I thought that we should familarise ourselves with the camera and use of the tripod and wheels, so when we come to filming we won't waste time trying to set up and work the camera. Once we got to the location where we wanted to film the scenes with the husband, however, the hotel that we planned to film the outside of told us we were not allowed to film the hotel for security reasons, however, this was not our only place to film as we started to film in the other locations near that area where we were allowed to film. Finally, Saba and I filmed the scenes that we wanted to do and overall in was a successful first day of filming.

Costume Planning

This week Saba and I decided that we should talk about what our characters should be wearing in our trailer. As we have three main characters; the husband, the wife and the killer, Saba and I decided that we should characterise our actors through clothing as we want to have the wife in white to symbolise innocence and purity which can be highlighted through the characters behaviour. In contrast the killer will be dressed in black and red to symbolise death and danger and the clothing can also suggest and clearly state the good characters and the evil characters. This then can follow conventions of a horror/ thriller movie becuase in films such as The Woman in Black and Gone this can be clearly demonstrated.
